The Automotive Campus has over 1250 people – including around 600 students – working on the mobility solutions of the future. They do so at leading automotive businesses, knowledge institutes, innovative start-ups, and educational institutes. In barely fifteen years, the campus has grown into the top national and international hotspot when it comes to green mobility and smart mobility.
From business park to community
History: It all started with Volvo. In the seventies, Volvo took over DAF's passenger car production and established their business in Helmond. In 2003, TNO Automotive also moved to the area. This seemed the incentive other organisations had been waiting for. The up-and-coming business park started to expand. And the more businesses that joined them, the clearer the added value of sharing knowledge and working together got. These companies, from large multinationals to small businesses, all had the same goal in mind: changing the automotive sector with innovative technologies and solutions. Competitors? No. Partners. There's a reason that, starting in 2008, there has been a conscious commitment towards collaboration and open innovation, and the development of the campus as a community. How? By establishing shared ambitions. By stimulating the sharing of knowledge through events and workshops. By bringing businesses together through matchmaking events. By creating shared facilities. And by helping anyone who is an asset to the community to start their business here and grow.

Meanwhile, the Automotive Campus has become the hotspot where businesses, knowledge institutes, and student teams find one another and form successful partnerships. Our open ecosystem is the perfect place to easily make new connections. The campus is also located in the heart of the top technological Brainport region. Working together and sharing knowledge are standard practice here; the traits that make this region so smart and strong. The organisations on campus make successful connections with the leading high-tech businesses in the Netherlands, as well as leaders in other sectors, such as IT, energy, and infrastructure. This cross-pollination encourages innovation. And creates partnerships that mean ideas can be turned into the technology of the future faster than ever before.
On-site education
The Automotive Campus is also unique when it comes to education. No other campus in the Netherlands has both global businesses and hyper-modern test facilities as well as educational institutes at different levels. For example, Innovam – training institute for the mobility sector and also located on the campus – offers over 150 different trainings and courses. Everyone, from student to experienced professional, has the opportunity for lifelong learning thanks to the many different possibilities for further training and retraining. Thanks to educational institutes and businesses on and off campus working together, this is where the latest generation of technicians, engineers, and researchers will flourish.
