Helmond, January 26, 2023 - Amid great interest from over 250 invited guests, His Majesty the King opened ELEO's new battery factory this afternoon. Using an electric excavator, King Willem-Alexander unveiled the first battery module produced in the new factory, marking the official opening.
Since its founding in 2017, ELEO has focused on developing and manufacturing high-quality battery systems for a wide range of applications, including construction and agricultural machinery and commercial vehicles. With the opening of the new plant, battery production capacity increases tenfold to some 10,000 packs per year.
"The opening of our new factory is a celebratory moment for our entire team, which is why we are also particularly proud that King Willem-Alexander officially opened the factory," said Bas Verkaik, co-founder at ELEO. "With the new factory, we are able to significantly increase our production capacity, which is important to meet the growing demand for our battery packs. In addition, this plant serves as a blueprint for further international scale-up in the coming years."
Following the official opening, King Willem-Alexander was given a tour of the new factory, during which he explained the battery systems production process and spoke to several employees about their work at ELEO.
The new factory is equipped with high-quality machinery to enable automated production. The facility has an area of 3,000 m2, with the possibility of further scaling up in the near future.
With the opening of the new battery factory, production of ELEO's new generation of batteries will also begin. These products are specifically designed for industrial vehicles and machinery, offering manufacturers the flexibility to customize battery pack specifications based on application requirements.
About ELEO
ELEO was founded in 2017 by former students of Eindhoven University of Technology, where the founders developed a revolutionary electric motorcycle to drive around the world in 80 days. Since its inception, ELEO has been dedicated to the mission of making high-performance battery systems accessible to a wide range of industrial applications
From that vision, ELEO has developed a modular battery system distinguished by its advanced battery management system (BMS) and innovative thermal management system. This brings significant advantages in terms of safety, reliability and longevity. In April 2022, Japanese multinational Yanmar acquired a majority stake in the company.
